“Survey Says!”…dating & relationship statistics

Attitudes Dating Dating Skills Fulfillment Goals Planning Relationships Solutions Women

Because I am a research geek (I love surveys and statistics), I was cruising around the interwebs, looking to see if I could find any recent stats on Singles in the U.S. I found a site that I’ve now bookmarked, statisticbrain.com, just in case I have the urge to know more about how many people visit national parks and things like that. They did have a pretty cool table that highlighted findings from a survey chronicled in a book called Sex in America, A Definitive Survey. As you can surmise, researchers like clarity, even in their book titles. I’m summarizing the stats that I found super-interesting here – some of which I think you should consider as you map out your scouting strategies – and of course, Continue reading

Got self-esteem?

Or, to paraphrase Sally Field: “I like me! Right now, I like me!”

Anyone who reads my blog posts, or sits in on my webinars, consistently hears me say: Know Thyself … and … Be Your True Self (<– 5 Essential Principles for Dating Bliss). The underlying thread here is that knowing yourself leads to self-acceptance, and when you accept yourself, you can be true to yourself, and not sacrifice yourself on the altar of desperation and self-loathing. (How’s that for drama?) You’ll make much better choices if you have healthy self-regard. This seems to be a “DUH!” statement but boy oh boy, our world is chock full of people who berate themselves, who are unaware of their sabotaging beliefs, and thus deny themselves their full potential. In other words, This Is A Biggie. There is no true success Continue reading

Dating & Relationship Lessons I’ve learned along the way

I’m a firm believer in walking my talk so I thought I would share with you some insight, and key learnings, that I’ve uncovered as a result of my many years of making dating and relationship mistakes, as well as a result of going through my relationship coaching certification training. Ask The Coach pt 3: How to be approachable

What’s a single woman to do?

You want to remain open and be approachable yet you can’t help but put walls up.

I had a client, I’ll dub Mary out of respect for privacy, reach out to me to ask that question. “I want to be in a relationship, but every time a guy talks to me, no matter what he says, I get defensive.”

Man, can I relate. I remember there was a period where I wanted to fling daggers at any guy who tried to “chat me up”. Not exactly the right kind of attitude for me to adopt, given the fact that I wanted to find a romantic partner.

With this in mind, we set about coaching her through this feeling. After exploring with her for a while, it became apparent that she had trouble trusting, and was Continue reading

Fear of Failure: Its Effects On Your Goals

Goals Resolutions Success

If you’ve read the past two posts, you know that I’ve been ruminating on New Year’s goals ~ and why most of us never seem to achieve those goals. The first step, which we all seem to overlook and which I feel is bigger than any “actionable strategy” that we cook up, is to spend some time addressing our emotional core surrounding our goal(s). In my first post, we looked squarely and clearly at the issue we’re trying to change and took complete ownership of the situation we’ve created (translated another way: Not Blaming Anything or Anyone, including ourselves). Then we unearthed our underlying or subconscious beliefs surrounding our goals ~ viewpoints we weren’t even aware we had (i.e., I’ll always have to work hard; I’ll never meet the right guy; I’ll always be struggling with money.) Then we examined ourselves to see if we had any unrecognized emotional benefits as a result of not making a change, or if we might even be addicted to our struggle. Continue reading
